Timelines - County Organization

24 Jan 1854 Trempealeau Co. created
23 Jul 1856 Courthouse in Galesville was ready for occupancy
State legislature was petitioned for removal of County Seat
1868 State legislature authorized a vote for removal of County Seat
07 Nov 1876 Citizens voted to move County Seat to Arcadia
1877 Citizens voted to move County Seat to Whitehall. 
County supervisors held their first meeting at Whitehall
1878 Proposition to remove the County Seat to Blair rejected by the voters
1882 Proposition to return the County Seat to Arcadia was rejected
1883 Petition to move the County Seat to Independence did not get enough support
1883 Courthouse was started in Whitehall, completed in 1884
1886 The County Jail was built
