"Trempealeau County" by Clarence J. Gamroth: Volume 1A: Schools: Russell District As early as 1885, the community known as Borst Valley was thickly settled. A school district was formed and a school was built. William Russell was chosen as Treasurer, Peter Nelson was clerk and Tom Burt was a director. The district had roots reaching to many countries. Poland had the largest representation, followed by Norway, Denmark, Scotland, Germany, England, Sweden, and Bohemia are all represented. The original building still stands. |
